During the comprehensive renovation of an elementary school in North Rhine-Westphalia, the school board had to find a way to keep classes running reliably during the construction phase. A completely new building would have meant a significant lead time as well as extremely large investments, so the idea was ruled out quickly. Instead, the school board opted for an economical temporary solution from ELA Container that could be implemented at short notice. For the duration of the renovation work, our modular room solutions will provide fully fledged teaching and functional areas for no fewer than 157 students on the very premises of the school. A unit consisting of 33 ELA containers was installed for the transition period.
24 containers provide space for classrooms and teachers’ working areas, two sanitary containers provide ample facilities for the students, and seven corridor containers connect the individual modules to form a clear, coherent layout. We paid particular attention to security and child-friendly equipment in the process: The doors are fitted with finger trap protection in order to minimize the risk of injury. Additionally, the sinks in the bathrooms have been installed at a lower height to make them easier for children to reach and more convenient to use. The result is a learning environment that very closely approximates the functionality and comfort of a traditional school building while remaining temporary and flexible.
With modern insulation, efficient heating and ventilation technology, and large windows, our containers have the two things all children need to be able to focus and learn: A pleasant indoor climate and plenty of daylight. At the same time, the unit’s clear, organized structure helps it integrate smoothly into the day-to-day running of the school. As an additional piece of equipment, the unit was fitted with a container platform with an awning to provide safe, comfortable routes while also offering protection from the elements.
